transcript : Doctor Who, Series 7, Episode 1 : Asylum of the Daleks

(Inspired by jpgr, who posted excellent transcripts of series 4, series 5 and series 6, I've decided to transcribe the first episode of the seventh series. I was fortunate to find the episode online; I watched it five times to make this transcript, after watching it twice for fun. That took a lot of time, so I don't know if I'll transcribe the second episode which is soon to air...

[Brackets with slashes/slashes in brackets] are places I wasn't sure of.)

(A WOMAN'S voice begins the story as the camera moves across a rust-red landscape, barren, as what seems like acid rain falls. We see a Dalek—it is massive, a monument, or is the camera merely very close, playing tricks we perspective? The clouds above are red; the Dalek is corroded. Lightning sounds in the distance. The sun is behind the red haze.)

VOICEOVER:
First, there were the Daleks. And then, there was a man who fought them. And then, in time, he died. There are a few, of course, who believe this man somehow survived, and that one day, he will return.

(We see a ball of fire roll across a floor littered with debris. Someone walks into the scene, but we see only the pair of ankle boots. The (FIRST) WOMAN continues to narrate.)

VOICEOVER:
For both our sakes, dearest Hannah, we must hope these stories are true.

(We see the profile of the figure who is walking in as a shadow—the recognisable profile of the Eleventh Doctor. We then see a hooded figure standing before a circular window, overlooking the red landscape. We see her Gothic high heels, and then part of her face as she turns; she has short hair.)

DOCTOR:
I got your message. Not many people can do that—send me messages.

FIRST WOMAN, DARLA(?):
I have a daughter. Hannah. She's in a Dalek prison camp. They say you can help.

DOCTOR:
Do they? I wish they'd stop.
Hell of a choice of meeting place.

DARLA:
They said I'd have to intrigue you.

DOCTOR:
Skaro. The original planet of the Daleks. Look at the state of it. (He surveys it.)
Who told you about me?

DARLA:
Does it matter?

DOCTOR:
Maybe not. But you're very well-informed.

(The DOCTOR removes DARLA's hood. He looks at her and then walks away.)

DOCTOR:
If Hannah's in a Dalek prison camp, tell me ... *why* *aren't* *you*?

DARLA:
I escaped.

DOCTOR (laughing):
Ahahaha... no. Nobody escapes the Dalek camps.
(He holds her hand.) You're very cold. (He touches her face. She moves away from his touch.)

DARLA:
What's wrong?

DOCTOR (backing away):
It's a trap.

DARLA:
What is?

DOCTOR:
You are. And you don't even know it.

(DARLA's neck creaks, and then, as the DOCTOR backs away, a blue light-stalk bursts out of her forehead. She holds up her hand, palm forward, and a Dalek weapon extends out of it. She shoots him. He groans as his falls back, having been hit.

A saucer ship descends, rotating, visible through the circular window.)

A DALEK voice intones:
The Doctor is acquired!

[cut]

(We see a fist, with the letters “HATE” written across it, then another, with “LOVE”. We are seeing a photoshoot of AMY. Her outfits change. She pouts at the camera. Rudimental's Feel The Love is playing.

After a while, AMY notices an assistant standing with a clipboard trying to get her attention. She climbs off of the staircase railing to see what he wants.)

AMY (to the cameramen):
I'll just be a minute.

ASSISTANT (pointing to another room):
Um, your husband is here.

AMY (walking ahead of the ASSISTANT):
(She makes an amused “hmh!”) I don't have a husband.

ASSISTANT (cheerfully):
Oh, well, apparently you still do!

(AMY walks into a dressing room. She stops when she enters the room and sees RORY'S face reflected in one of the mirrors; he is facing away from her. He holds up a ream of papers.)

RORY:
You have to sign these.

AMY:
And then we're not married?

RORY:
Just like magic.

(AMY signs the papers as “Amy Williams”; “London”—their new address—is visible on the papers.)

AMY:
Can't ... chat.
Working.

RORY:
Really? I thought you were just pouting at a camera.

(RORY walks out of the room.)

AMY (moves after him, calls after him):
Rory...

(On his way out on the room, RORY almost runs into a woman who is stepping into the room. He moves around her. The bulbs of the lights by the mirror flicker—glowing particularly bright momentarily—as the woman points back at RORY as she walks over to AMY.)

ASSISTANT-WOMAN:
Sorry... was I interrupting?

AMY (almost inaudibly):
No...

ASSISTANT-WOMAN (touching Amy's face):
Gosh. Look at you. You've gone so pale!
(pulling a seat out for AMY)
Take a seat. We'll soon sort it out.

(The lights continue to flicker. The ASSISTANT-WOMAN'S head slumps with a creak, as we can see in the mirror; AMY turns around and sees her head rise again. Light washes over AMY as a blue light-stalk projects from the ASSISTANT-WOMAN'S head.)

A DALEK voice intones:
Amelia Pond is acquired!

(We hear the sound of a Dalek energy weapon firing.)

[cut]

(RORY is getting on a bus, papers in hand.)

RORY (paying the bus driver):
Cheers.

(RORY sits, then looks up when another creaking sound is heard. We see a Dalek light-stalk in the rear-view mirror, and white light spills out of all the windows of the otherwise empty bus.)

A DALEK voice intones:
Rory Williams is acquired!

[cut]

(RORY is lying on a white floor, unconscious. He awakes, and looks over to see Amy, standing with her arms crossed.)

RORY (to her):
Where are we?

(AMY merely nods her head in the direction of a window.

RORY goes over to it and looks out, as the music rises briefly. Through the window, we see a fleet of ships—in space.)

RORY:
So... *how much* trouble are we in?

(There is the sound of a door sliding open.

We see that AMY and RORY are in a white room, which a DALEK is entering through the open door.)

DOCTOR (unseen, speaking while the screen shows only the DALEK which is entering the room):
How much trouble, Mr. Pond?

(We see the DOCTOR; he is behind the first DALEK, being guided forward by a second DALEK.)

DOCTOR:
Out of ten?
Eleven.

(They look up as a circle in the ceiling opens above them; we look through it down at them as the floor of the room they are in begins to rise. Antsy music plays as we see they are on a platform which will rise (and fit) through the whole in the ceiling.

They reach the room above them, the floor stopping, flush with the floor of that room. It is vast, and filled with Daleks, all arranged in a circle around them. The DOCTOR surveys it, and then looks to the nearest wall, by which a large white Dalek—the PRIME MINISTER?—is standing; an UNARMORED DALEK is also there, encased in glass.)

AMY:
Where are we? Spaceship, right?

DOCTOR (seeming a bit afraid):
Not just any spaceship. The Parliament of the Daleks.
Be brave.

AMY:
What do we do?

DOCTOR:
Make them remember you.

DOCTOR (moving away from AMY and RORY, extending his arms, not attempting to shield himself; addressing the Daleks):
Well come on then.
You've got me!
What are you waiting for?
At long last ... it's Christmas!
Here I am!

(The DOCTOR closes his eyes, ready to die.)

The UNARMORED DALEK pleads:
Save us.

(The DOCTOR squints, looking confused by his continued existence.)

UNARMORED DALEK:
You will save us.

DOCTOR:
I'll what?

UNARMORED DALEK:
You will save the Daleks.

DALEK PARLIAMENT (shouting their assent, their lights flickering):
Save the Daleks! Save the Daleks! Save the Daleks! Save the Daleks! Save the Daleks!

DOCTOR:
Well.
This is new...

(a new title sequence plays, more orange and red and with a robotic font, crediting Matt, Karen and Arthur, and mentioning the episode title, Asylum of the Daleks, and that it was written by Moffat)

(Music plays loudly—the Carmen—as a plastic ballerina in a mesh tutu spins.

A (SECOND) WOMAN'S VOICE, calm, narrates.)

VOICEOVER:
Day 363.

(We see the woman, holding a nail in her mouth like a carpenter.)

The terror continues.

(The woman wears a red dress. She is nailing boards across a circular door. Three pipes extend out from it on either side, into the darkness; her room is grey. There is a potted plant on one side of the door and a stack of boxes on the other.)

Also, made another soufflé. Very ... nearly.

(We see the woman take a soufflé out of the oven; we see her expression crash as she sees that it is burnt. She puts it—ceramic cooking dish and all—into a rubbish bin, which she then pats.)

Checked defenses. (The woman looks at her door, which she has nailed boards over.) They came again last night. Still always at night. Maybe they're vampires.

(The WOMAN IN THE RED DRESS—we see her speaking now—is lying in a hammock. She is speaking into a recorder.)

RED-DRESS WOMAN:
Oh! And: It's my mum's birthday. Happy Birthday, mum. I did make you a soufflé, but it was too beautiful to live.

(Daleks are heard outside the door, banging on it, issuing indistinct orders:)

DALEKS:
You will let us enter!
We will enter!

(The WOMAN simply turns up the volume on the music she is playing, and eventually covers her ears with her hands and closes her eyes. She rocks in her hammock.)

[cut]

(The DOCTOR is pacing in the Parliament room. AMY and RORY are standing in the circle, not too close to each other. The DALEKS swivel their heads, watching the DOCTOR.)

RORY (whispering to AMY):
What's he doing?

AMY:
He's chosen the most defendable area in the room, counted all the Daleks, counted all the exits, and now he's calculating the exact distance we're standing apart and starting to worry.

(The DOCTOR indeed looks at them, as does DALEK-DARLA, who is wearing a black leather and silver-metal suit. RORY does indeed have his back to AMY; both are looking at the DOCTOR.)

AMY:
Oh! And look at him frowning now. 'Something's wrong with Amy and Rory and who's gonna fix it?' (The DOCTOR straightens his bow tie.) And he straightens his bow tie.

(The DOCTOR looks at a watch or something on his left wrist. He is staring intently at AMY and RORY.)

A large, white DALEK behind the DOCTOR—the PRIME MINISTER?—speaks:
We have arrived.

DOCTOR (after a moment; without turning around):
Arrived where?

UNARMORED DALEK:
Doc-tor.

DARLA:
The Prime Minister will speak with you now. (She gestures “right this way”.)

DOCTOR (walking over to her, speaking roughly):
Do you remember who you were before they emptied you out and turned you into their puppet?

DARLA (matter-of-factly):
My memories are only reactivated if they are required to facilitate deep cover or disguise.

DOCTOR:
You had a daughter.

DARLA:
I know. (leaning in, smiling) I've read my file.

DOCTOR (moving closer to the UNARMORED DALEK):
Well?

UNARMORED DALEK:
What do you know of the Dalek Asylum?

DOCTOR:
According to legend you have a dumping ground. A planet where you lock up all the Daleks that go wrong. The battle-scarred, the insane, the ones even you can't control. (He looks amused at that last thought.)

DOCTOR (turning and walking away):
Which never made any sense to me.

UNARMORED DALEK:
Why not?

DOCTOR (his hand on a console that is midway between the UNARMORED DALEK and AMY and RORY):
Because you'd just kill them.

UNARMORED DALEK:
It is offensive to us to extinguish such divine hatred.

DOCTOR (turning around, visibly disgusted by the realisation):
Offensive?

UNARMORED DALEK:
Does it surprise you to know the Daleks have a concept of beauty?

DOCTOR (leaning in close to UNARMORED DALEK, with hatred and disgust showing on his face):
I thought you'd run out of ways to make me sick. But hello again.
You think *hatred* is *beautiful*?

UNARMORED DALEK:
Perhaps that is why we have never been able to kill you.

(The DOCTOR, who was walking away, stops and looks taken aback.

Background music jumps up.

A circle opens in the circle on the floor RORY and AMY are standing on, which they step away from. The DOCTOR and DARLA walk over and look through the hole. There is no longer a room below them: they see into space; they look at a planet, far below.)

DARLA:
The Asylum. It occupies the entire planet. Right to the core.

DOCTOR:
How many Daleks are down there?

DARLA:
A count has not been made. Millions, certainly.

DOCTOR:
All still alive?

DARLA:
It has to be assumed. The Asylum is fully-automated. Supervision is not required.

AMY:
Armed?

DARLA:
The Daleks are always armed.

RORY:
What colour? (The others look confused.) Sorry, there weren't any good questions left.

DARLA:
The signal is being received from the very heart of the Asylum.

(In the Dalek ship, an aria from Bizet's Carmen is heard.

[cut] We see an empty room with a large leather chair.

[cut] We are back on the Dalek ship.)

PM:
What is the noise! Explain! Explain!

DOCTOR:
Oh, ah... ah... ah... it's me.

RORY:
Sorry, what?

DOCTOR:
It's me, playing the triangle. Okay, I got buried in the mix.
Carmen! Lovely show! Someone's transmitting this. Have you considered ... tracking back the signal and talking to them?

(No-one says anything.)

DOCTOR (to himself):
He asked the Daleks...

[cut] (We see the room with the large chair again.)

DOCTOR (unseen, but heard by the WOMAN IN THE RED DRESS, who looks around a corner into the room with the chair):
Hello? Hello, Carmen? Hello?

(The WOMAN, with a rose in her hair over her left ear, is looking up.)

WOMAN (softly):
Hello?

DOCTOR:
Come in, come in, come in, Carmen!

WOMAN (running over to the console which is in front of the chair):
Hello! Yes! Yes... sorry! Do you read me?

DOCTOR (on the ship):
Yes, reading you loud and clear. Identify your self and report your status.

OSWIN (in her room, surprise and pleasure sweeping across her face as she realises she has made contact):
Hello. Are you real? Are you actually, properly real?

DOCTOR (on the Dalek ship, amused):
Yeah, confirmed. Actually, properly real.

WOMAN (the camera continues to cut between her in her room and the DOCTOR on the ship):
Oswin Oswald. Junior Entertainment Manager, Starship Alaska. Current status: ... crashed and shipwrecked somewhere ... (she looks at the door) ... *not nice*. Been here a year, rest of the crew missing. Provisions good, but keen to move on.

DOCTOR (slowly, taking it all in, quietly confused):
A year?
Are you okay?
Are you ... under attack?

OSWIN:
Some local lifeforms.
(she looks thoughtful for a moment)
Been keeping them out.

(OSWIN looks to the door. We see, on the viewscreen in front of her, a glimpse of a room with a white floor, white walls divided into sections or pads by a latticework, and a door.)

DOCTOR:
Do you know what those lifeforms are?

OSWIN:
I know a Dalek when I hear one, yeah.

DOCTOR (still speaking softly, looking confused or intrigued):
What have you been doing ... on your own ... against the Daleks ... for a year?

OSWIN:
Making soufflés?

DOCTOR (amused):
Soufflés. Against the Daleks.

(The DOCTOR looks back at the white Dalek PM behind him. He then looks back to the console and looks confused, and asks:)

DOCTOR:
Where d'you get the milk?

PM:
This conversation is irrelevant!

(We hear a noise that seems to be the PM shutting off the transmission.)

DOCTOR:
No. It. Isn't.

OSWIN (in her room, frantically fiddling with her controls, having lost the signal):
No! Hello? Hello?

DOCTOR (back on the ship, speaking to the PM):
Because a starliner's crashed into your asylum, and someone's got in. And if someone can get in, then everything can get out. A tsunami of insane Daleks! Even you don't want that.

PM:
The Asylum must be cleansed.

DOCTOR:
Then why is it still here? You have enough fire power on this ship to blast it out of the sky.

DARLA (interjecting):
The Asylum forcefield is impenetrable.

DOCTOR (dismissively):
Turn it off.

DARLA:
It can only be turned off from within the Asylum.

DOCTOR:
A small taskforce could sneak through a forcefield.
Send in a couple of Daleks...

(The DOCTOR realises.)

DOCTOR:
Oh. (clapping) Oh, ah, that's good. That's brilliant. You're all too scared to go down there. Not one of you will go. (mocking them, amused) So tell me, what do the Daleks do when they're too scared?

PM:
The predator of the Daleks will be deployed.

DOCTOR:
You don't have a predator, and even if you did, why would they turn off a forcefield for you?

CAAN:
Because you will have no other means of escape.

DARLA (leaning in):
May I clarify? “The Predator” is the Daleks' word for you.

DOCTOR (looking around, looking disgusted at the thought, and perhaps slightly confused):
Me? Me?!

(Two figures approach the DOCTOR, who is standing between DARLA and the PRIME MINISTER. AMY and RORY are in the foreground, their backs to us—we are behind them, observing the scene along with them.)

DARLA:
You will need this. It will protect you from the nano-cloud. (One of the men in black puts the bracelet on his wrist. Both men grab his wrists and move him back to the circle on the floor with the window.)

DOCTOR:
The what? The nano-what?

DARLA:
The gravity beam will convey you close to the source of the transmission. (A pillar of white light extends up out of—or down into—the hole, from/to the ceiling.) You must find a way to deactivate the forcefield from there.

DOCTOR:
You're going to fire me at a planet? That's your plan? I get fired at a planet and expected to fix it? (He looks down, through the beam, at the planet; the men have him and AMY and RORY all standing by the beam.)

RORY:
In fairness, that is *slightly* your M.O.

DOCTOR (indignant):
Don't be fair to the Daleks when they're firing me at a planet!

DOCTOR (as the men put bracelets on AMY and RORY):
What do you want with them?

PM:
It is known the Doctor requires companions.

RORY:
Oh, brilliant. Good-o!

DOCTOR:
Don't worry. We'll get through this, I promise. Don't be scared.

AMY (looking nonchalant, almost flirty):
Scared? Who's scared?
Geronimo. (She seems about to smile when our point of view shifts.

We see the DOCTOR laugh, loving her response.

Then one of the men shoves the DOCTOR into the beam.)

DOCTOR:
Oi!

(AMY and RORY scream as they are shoved into the beam as well.

We see blinding white light; the camera is falling through the beam as well, looking up; it then pivots as AMY and RORY and the DOCTOR hurtle past; it looks down as they fall.)

RORY (falling upside down):
Wrong way up! Wrong way up!

(They are all screaming.)

AMY:
Rory!

(Rory covers his eyes with his hands.

We see the beam of light as a tether extending to/from the planet, which is covered in a laticework of hexagons of blue light, the forcefield.

We see that the beam has its terminus in a snowy, mountainous area.

A man in a white fut coat is using a drill or mini-jackhammer on a manhole-cover like hatch in the snow.

We hear AMY laughing; she is screaming a happy, excited scream.

The man looks up, and we see two beams of white light land near each other. After a moment, a third lands on the other side of a small ridge. The man stands up and drops his tool and runs towards the beams.

The camera shows the vast, empty, snowy mountainous area.

The man walks over to AMY, who is lying in the snow, unconscious.

The man's posture and facial expression suggest he is keeping his distance, but he sounds pleasant when he says:)

MAN:
'llo.

(He stands over AMY, casting a shadow across her face.

She begins to wake.

MAN:
Hello. Who are you?

(Both look confused.)

MAN:
You OK?

(She scrambles up.)

AMY:
Rory?
Doctor?

(He doesn't know what she'll do. She is looking around.)

MAN:
I'm Harvey. May I help?

HARVEY (shouting after her, and then following her, as she staggers/runs up a hill):
Who's Rory?

(We see the full scene again from overhead.)

HARVEY (alarmed):
Where are you going?

(A new scene comes into focus: the camera is looking over a patch of snow. A Dalek eye-stalk pops out of the snow and looks around, scanning like a periscope. It disappears and a second pops up, scans, and drops back into the snow some distance away from the first.

A third pops up, looks over, and we see through it: the DOCTOR is lying in the snow. He lets out his breath, having landed on his back, and then begins to laugh as he gets up.)

DOCTOR:
Ah-ha-ho! (noticing the eye-stalk) Hey! Huh?

(He squints, perhaps from the sun or perhaps because he expects to be exterminated.

Carmen plays. He opens his eyes, looking confused, getting to his feet.)

OSWIN (turning off Carmen):
Sorry! Sorry! Pressed the wrong switch.

DOCTOR (still lying in the snow):
Soufflé Girl?

OSWIN (looking slightly peeved at the nickname):
You could always call me Oswin. (starting to smile again) Seeing as that's my name.

(The DOCTOR lets out a “ha” of exertion as he rests on his elbows rather than his back; we see him looking into the camera, from Oswin's point of view)

OSWIN:
You okay?

DOCTOR (with the same confusion on his face):
How're you doing [in there / that], eh? (He taps the periscope.) This is Dalek technology.

OSWIN (looking down):
Well it's very easy to hack.

DOCTOR:
No it isn't!
Where are you?

OSWIN (looking around, not knowing):
Ship broke up when it hit. I'm ... somewhere underground I think.

OSWIN (looking pleased at the possibility):
You coming to get me?

(We here a beeping, perhaps background music, perhaps related to the fact that the signal is going out. We still see the DOCTOR through Oswin's camera, but hear AMY:)

AMY:
Doctor?!

DOCTOR (as the signal goes down, tapping the camera):
Oi! Soufflé Girl!

(OSWIN lets out an amused “chh” at the continued use of the nickname.)

DOCTOR:
Come back!

(OSWIN taps her keyboard and fiddles with her console, trying to get the signal back.)

AMY:
Doctor!

DOCTOR:
Amy!

(She reaches him, unsteady on her feet. He catches her and helps her stand up straight.)

DOCTOR:
Where's Rory? (They look to HARVEY, who has followed AMY.)

HARVEY:
There was another beam! (points with both arms to his left) There! (they look that way) Over there!

(The DOCTOR and AMY run. HARVEY, after a second, runs after them, still not knowing who they are.)

HARVEY:
Are you the rescue team?

(For a moment, we again see OSWIN, who is still fiddling with her controls.

[cut] AMY and the DOCTOR, and then HARVEY, make their way to a hole and look down.)

AMY:
Rory?

AMY:
Rory?
(She screams his name; the camera falls into and speeds down the hole.) RORY?!

[cut]

(The camera finds Rory, front-down, on the floor. His bracelet's light still glows blue. A drop of water lands on his face, and then a drop of glowing green goo. He wipes it off absent-mindedly, like a person would when still groggy, then snaps to and bolts to his feet.

He finds himself in a room; its ceiling leaking. It is lit the way an abandoned building would be lit by light creeping in through broken windows, though we see no windows and we know he is deep underground. A number of Daleks, inert and rusty, are in the room.

He looks around and stands carefully. He walks slowly, moves over to a Dalek with his hand out, palm forward, cautious. He touches it and then pulls his hand back, but nothing happens.

He pushes it; it rolls backwards.

He shrugs.

He takes out his flashlight, looks around.)

[cut]

(We are back in the sunlight and snow. Amy and the Doctor are making their way over to another hatch in the snow, following HARVEY.)

HARVEY:
We came down two days ago. There's twelve other escape pods.

(HARVEY presses a release on the door, beginning its opening. AMY, meanwhile, moves snow off of the shell of the ship with her foot.)

HARVEY:
I don't know what happened to them.

AMY (noticing the name emblazoned on the pod):
Alaska. That's the same ship as Soufflé Girl.

DOCTOR:
Yeah.

(The DOCTOR stands after looking at the sign; he and AMY look at each other as HARVEY climbs into the hatch.)

DOCTOR:
Except she's been here a year...

(HARVEY climbs into the pod. AMY and the DOCTOR are coming after him. We see the crew, almost—they sit in rows of chairs, facing away from the DOCTOR and towards us, their hoods down so that we do not see their faces.)

HARVEY:
We should have some climbing rope... long enough for that hole.

(The DOCTOR reaches the bottom of the ladder.)

DOCTOR (making a nice, social gesture, as AMY also reaches the bottom of the ladder):
Won't you introduce us to your crew?

HARVEY:
Ah, yeah. Sorry. Ah, guys—this is the Doctor, and Amy.

(The Doctor has his hand to the top of his head, and then extends it, a quasi-salute.)

(There is no response.)

HARVEY:
Guys?

(The DOCTOR goes over to one, taps its shoulder, then pulls it back. It creaks. We see the face under the hood: a skull.)

HARVEY:
Oh, my God!

(The DOCTOR removes its hood, takes out his screwdriver, scans it and the others, as if confirmation is necessary.)

DOCTOR:
They're dead. All of them.

HARVEY (as the DOCTOR pockets his screwdriver again):
That's not possible. I just spoke to them. Two hours ago, we were doing engine repairs.

DOCTOR (after pulling the hood off another one, revealing that it, too, is a skull):
You sure about that, are you? 'Cause I'd say they've all been dead for a very long time.

HARVEY:
But they can't have been.

AMY:
Well they didn't get in this state in two hours.

HARVEY (realising):
Of course. Stupid me.

AMY (not understanding):
Of course what?

HARVEY (as an emotionless observation):
I died outside ... and the cold preserved my body. (He looks sad, in thought.) I forgot about dying.

(A blue light on a stalk extends from HARVEY's head; the DOCTOR grabs a yellow fire extinguisher and sprays HARVEY as HARVEY comes towards the DOCTOR.)

DOCTOR (pushing Harvey back):
Amy, the door!

(AMY mashes its opener-switch, getting it open in time for HARVEY to fall through it; she then shuts and locks the door.)

AMY:
Explain! That's what you're good at. How'd he get all Dalek'ed?

DOCTOR:
Because he wasn't wearing one of these.

(The DOCTOR holds up his wrist with the glowing blue bracelet; AMY has one as well.)

DOCTOR:
Oh ho ho. That's clever! The nano-cloud. Micro-organisms that automatically process any organic matter—living or dead—into a Dalek puppet. Ha-ha!

(The DOCTOR pats a skeleton on the head, while AMY is still standing by the door, looking increasingly alamed.)

DOCTOR:
Anything attacks this place, it automatically becomes a part of the on-site security.

AMY:
Living or dead? (She is looking through the ladder, surveying the corpses in the seats.)

DOCTOR:
These, ah, wristbands protect us. The only thing stopping us going exactly the way he did...

AMY:
Doctor! Shut. Up.

AMY (asking again):
Living or dead?

DOCTOR (making a sweeping gesture with his hand as he explains):
Yes, exactly, living or, or... or...

(The CORPSES creak.

We see, close-up, that one has grown an eye-stalk with a blue light.

We see, from the front of the pod, that the four CORPSES have come to “life” and are standing up.)

DOCTOR:
...dead.
Oh dear.

(The CORPSE-DALEKS advance on the DOCTOR and AMY.)

They hear HARVEY banging on the door behind them. The DOCTOR clambers over the seats, kicking the slow-moving CORPSES back; AMY moves around the side of the seats. They reach a side-room and run inside, but a DALEK has AMY's arm.

AMY (screams):
Ahh! Doctor!

(The DOCTOR kicks the CORPSES back, and pulls AMY's arm in as the door slams shut, the CORPSES on the other side.

AMY looks at her wrist, her mouth open. Perhaps she is surprised to have survived, or alarmed at the closeness of the encounter.

The DOCTOR pops the door-lock and the two settle with their backs against the door. AMY calms enough to look to the DOCTOR, who looks alarmed. She is smiling.)

AMY:
Is it bad that I've *really* missed this?

DOCTOR:
Yes.

AMY:
Good.

DOCTOR:
I know.

(They smile at each other.)

OSWIN (holding her hand to her head as if holding up an earpiece or mouthpiece; in a calm, authoritative voice, as if a recording):
Unauthorised personnel may not enter the cockpit.

DOCTOR (as he moves forward to take a seat):
Shut up.

OSWIN:
Oh! Mr. Grumpy. Bad combo. No sense of humour, and that chin.

AMY:
Is that her again, Soufflé Girl?

DOCTOR:
Yeah. She— oi, oi! What is wrong with my chin?

OSWIN:
Careful dear. You'll put someone's eye out.

(The DOCTOR touches his chin, concerned that someone is insulting it, while AMY laughs, amused.)

OSWIN:
I'm scanning you, you're on another of the escape pods from the Alaska, [I sense your power's] on.
(*NOTE: I found it difficult to make out this line. Another transcriber writes “Alaska, right? same ship I was on”.)

(The DOCTOR looks confused.)

DOCTOR:
... How can you hack into everything? It should be impossible. You're in a crashed ship!

OSWIN (stops checking her watch/metal bracelet, and says, looking unconcerned and almost bored that the question is being asked):
*Long* story.
Is there a word for total screaming genius that sounds modest and a tiny bit sexy?

(Unseen by the DOCTOR, OSWIN smiles coyly.)

DOCTOR (looking cleverly, smiling coyly into the screen):
Doctor. You call me the Doctor.

OSWIN (wagging her finger at the screen):
See what you did there.

OSWIN (as a beep sounds):
Check the floor. I'm picking up a breach of floor level. There could be a way out. (She resumes tapping at her keypad.) See ya later!

(AMY moves a yellow toolbox off of a hole in the floor, which is outlined with black-and-yellow-slant lines.)

DOCTOR:
Aha! A hatch. It looks like it's been used already and they tried to ... block it off behind them. (There is a blue line of rope going into a small hole in the door.)

AMY (glancing back at the door, which the corpses are on the other side of; looking confused, but being sarcastic):
Can't imagine why.

DOCTOR:
The lower part of the pod is buried, so this must go ... straight down to the Asylum.

AMY:
Where Rory is?

DOCTOR:
Yeah.
Speaking of Rory, is there anything that you want to tell me?

AMY (perhaps exasperated or annoyed):
Are we gonna do this *now*?

DOCTOR:
Well, what happened?

AMY:
Oh, stuff! We split up, what can ya do?

DOCTOR (softly, asking to help):
What *can* I do?

AMY (looks at him, smiling, as if appreciating the gesture... until a look of resolve, of anger or sadness, comes across her face):
Nothing.
(She reaches out to touch his bow-tie.) It's not one of those things you can fix, like you *fix* your bow tie.
Don't give me those big wet eyes, Raggedy Man. (She looks as if she is trying to push him away, make him not ask; she looks as if she is trying to be a bit angry but can only manage to be sad. He looks concerned and won't let himself be pushed away.) It's life. Just life, that's thing that goes on when you're not there.

(The DOCTOR drops whatever metal tool he was using to the floor with a clang and pulls the hatch open; AMY helps. they look down into the tunnel.)

AMY:
Okay, so, someone else got out this way, then.

DOCTOR:
Yeah, let's go find them.

(The CORPSES bang on the door. The DOCTOR looks up.)

DOCTOR:
Ooh! 'ello 'ello 'ello! What are they up to?

(The DOCTOR and AMY run over to the screen. AMY looks at it...)

AMY (looking confused, alarmed):
What's that?

DOCTOR (holding up his wrist with its bracelet with its glowing blue light):
One of these.

DOCTOR (confused):
But where did they get it?

AMY (looking confused, then checks her arm):
Doctor... they got it from me.

DOCTOR:
Oh, Amy...

AMY (as the Doctor examines her arm):
Doctor, what's going to happen to me, seriously? Tell me.

(She is still wearing the large ring she had on earlier, during the photoshoot.

No-one speaks for a moment.

The DOCTOR lets out a breath as if about to say something, but the CORPSES bang on the door, diverting his attention.

We see the viewscreen showing one of the corpses brandishing the bracelet.)

[cut]

(RORY sighs and makes his way through the tunnels, wielding a flashlight / electric torch. Abandoned Daleks are visible around him.

He approaches one and examines it, taking hold of its stalk and turning its top around so he can get a good look at the bit near the light which is on the side of its head like an ear.

RORY suddenly seems surprised and steps back as the DALEK'S head slowly moves back to its original position.

RORY backs away, looking concerned. As he does, his foot hits a piece of metal on the floor; it skids across the floor noisily.

The light in the DALEK'A eye stalk begins to glow blue.

RORY seems to start to say “sh...” as the DALEK turns its head to face him.

Other Daleks' lights flicker on.

In a rusty, particularly stacato voice, the DALEK which RORY has moved speaks:)

DALEK:
Eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-eggs.

RORY:
What? (A look of confusion spreads across his face.) Sorry, what?

(The DALEK'S “ear”-lights glow white.)

DALEK:
Eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-eggs.

RORY:
Eggs? (We see a close-up of the spheres on the side of the DALEK; some sockets are empty, the spheres missing.) You mean those things?

DALEK (its voice rusty, grinding):
Ehhhggs.

RORY (looking almost like he's pretending not to understand—faced with such an enemy, wouldn't you?—but likely also genuinely not understanding):
I don't ... I don't know what you want. Ah... those things ... are ... are those things eggs?

(RORY bends down to pick up the sphere he is pointing at on the floor in front of the DALEK. It would fit into one of the DALEK'S sockets. He picks it up.)

RORY:
This? You want this? (He holds out the sphere, offering it to the DALEK.)

DALEK:
Ehhhgg.

(RORY shakes his head, disappointed that the sphere doesn't seem to be what the DALEK wants.)

DALEK:
Sturm ... ee ... nayt. (Its ear-lights glow bright white; little red lights also flicker within the “ears” of one of the other DALEKS.)

(RORY drops the sphere in shock. It clatters and bounces. The other DALEKS' stalk-lights are all glowing blue now, though a weak blue. The tunnel is still mostly dark, light only by some weak overhead light. It looks dusty.)

DALEKS (speaking out of sync and over one another in a cacophonic chorus, shifting to face RORY):
EX-TER-MIN-ATE!

(One of the DALEKS fires its weapon at RORY, who narrowly leaps out of the way as the bolt of blue light explodes the wall behind him.

RORY looks alarmed and crouches to the floor, rolling out of the way of another blast.)

ONE OF THE DALEKS (in the Daleks' more typical/lively, rising tone):
Emergency, emergency! Exterminate!

(The DALEKS continue firing; Rory has his back against one of the massive columns that dot the the room. A cacophony of “emergency” and “extermine” and shifting positions continues.)

OSWIN (as a voice from above, which RORY looks up to see):
Run! The door at the end, (the camera shifts to show it) run for it. They're waking up, [so/but] they're slow. The door at the end (we see OSWIN in her room saying this) just run. Now, now, now!

(RORY runs, ducking over the cables that hang from the ceiling; the DALEKS move after him, still growling “exterminate, ex-ter-min-aaate!” in the rising, urgent, almost worried tone they usually have.

They fire more beams at RORY as he runs for the door, which OSWIN is opening by remote control.

RORY drops to the ground and slides under the door, which has not fully raised and which closes behind him, keeping the Daleks on the other side. The door lowers with a sound like the clatter of chains and thumps when it closes.

RORY breathes several sighs of relief, bringing his hand to his forehead as he—now sitting—presses his back to the wall of the corridor he is now in. He jumps and looks around, surprised, when OSWIN speaks:)

OSWIN:
So. Anyway. I'm Oswin. What do I call you?

RORY:
Uh... (he looks confused, stressed; he seems to say “I can't even remember” barely audibly; he looks at his palms; when he speaks, he sounds hesitant) uh... Rory.

(We see Oswin's dimpled face as the camera cuts back to her room.)

OSWIN:
Lovely name, Rory. First boy I ever fancied was called Rory.

RORY (seen through one of the Aslyum's security cameras):
Okay...

OSWIN (in thought):
Actually, she was called Nina. (pause) I was going through a phase.

(The camera shifts back to RORY in the corridor.)

OSWIN (in a cheerful voice):
Just flirting to keep you cheerful.

(RORY inclines his head and nods it sideways in one of his usual gestures of “... alright ... I suppose”.

The DALEKS can be heard banging on the other side of the door.

A bit later and a bit further down the corridor:)

RORY (looking into a camera):
Ah, okay... any time you want to start flirting again is fine by me.

[cut]

(AMY is climbing down the shaft using the rope ladder.)

AMY:
So tell me, what's gonna happen to me? And don't lie, 'cause I know when you're lying to me and I will definitely *fall on you*.

DOCTOR (climbing down, below AMY on the ladder):
Yeah ... we're around sort of ... micro-machines. Robots, the size of molecules. (He reaches the floor and the end of the ladder.) Nano-genes. Now that you're unprotected, you're being ... rewritten.

AMY (standing with him in the corridor they have reached at the bottom of the ladder):
So what happens? I get one of those ... things ... sticking out of my head?

DOCTOR (determining which way to go):
Physical traces come later ...

AMY (following him as he moves quickly down the corridor):
Well what comes first? How does it start?

DOCTOR (turning to look at her):
With your mind. Your ... your feelings, your memories, ... and I'm sorry, but ... it's started already.

(AMY looks alarmed and pauses for a moment; the DOCTOR continues down the corridor.)

AMY:
How do you know?

DOCTOR (looking concerned, but looking at us, not at AMY behind him):
Because we've had this conversation four times.

AMY (moving to stand beside him as he pauses):
Okay, I'm scared now.

DOCTOR:
Hang on to scared, scared isn't Dalek. (They hug.)

[cut]

(We see a flashlight beam illuminate the wall of a tunnel. The picture is out of focus. There is nothing to see.

The wrist of the hand holding the flashlight is has one of the bracelets with the glowing blue lights on it.

We are blinded by the flashlight and can see nothing in the otherwise total darkness.

Finally, we see the scene from a bit further away and the lights flicker on long enough to show RORY making his way through the tunnels, he seems to be shivering or perhaps only jiggling his light as it flickers.

The lights flicker on.)

OSWIN (over the intercom, as usual):
Hey there, binky-boy.

RORY:
If it's a straight choice, I prefer Nina.

(The security cameras all resemble Dalek eye-stalks.)

OSWIN:
Loving this! The Nose and The Chin. (We see OSWIN briefly.) You two could fence. (We see RORY through a camera again.)

(RORY sighs, exasperated.)

OSWIN:
There's a door behind you. (RORY looks, and the door opens with the same chain sound.) In there, quickly. (He makes it in and the door closes. There is a faintly-glowing white circular apparatus/platform on the floor of the room.) Okay. You're safe for now. (We see OSWIN again. She says nonchalantly:) Pop your shirt off, quick as you like.

RORY (beginning to remove his shirt):
... why?

OSWIN (looking bemused):
Does there have to be a reason?

(RORY drops his head to the side—he may be rolling his eyes, though we can't see—and makes a flourish with his hand, the gestural equivalent of an exasperated sigh.)

[cut]

(A door, not solid like the others but made of a few think horizontal bars, opens. AMY and the DOCTOR are on the other side. They look into the room; the DOCTOR sniffs the air. It is the same room RORY found the DALEKS in earlier, dotted with thick, polygonal columns. It is brighter, but empty: though we can hear the DALEKS clamoring in the distance, we do not see them.)

AMY:
What's that?

DOCTOR (backing away and closing the door, speaking to Amy):
Keep a lookout. (He grasps the sides of her head and says forcefully:) Don't open this door! (He moves away from the door, down the corridor back the way they came.)

DOCTOR:
Oswin! Oswin...? (At the same time, Amy is wincing and clutching her left hand to her forehead, as if having a headache.) Can you hear me? (We see her watching him on a screen.)

OSWIN:
Hello, The Chin! I have visual on you.

DOCTOR:
Why don't I have a visual on you? Why can't I ever see you?

(We see OSWIN sitting in a spaciously wide black leather chair in her room, legs crossed, keyboard on lap. Her console is also a dark colour.)

OSWIN:
Limited power ... bad hair ... take your pick. (We are back in the corridor, looking at the DOCTOR.) There's a door to your left. Open it. (The DOCTOR opens the door.) Gonna send you a map to that screen.

OSWIN:
I put your little friend somewhere safe. I can get you to him.

DOCTOR:
Rory? You found Rory?

OSWIN:
I called him Nina. (She closes her eyes in thought. She shakes her head as she opens her eyes and says:) It was a personal thing. (She looks almost angry as she says:) Hush now!

(AMY stares out the door. To some extent, her eyes are glazed over, but she is looking at something on the other side of the door.

We see what she is seeing: a man in a suit, looking young and cheerful, with short hair. He is decidedly out of place.

After a moment, the man nods.

We see AMY again, but the world around her his blurry. She looks confused.)

AMY (in a whisper):
Who are you?

(AMY looks confused, and seems to mumble “Doctor...”; she throws her hands up to get out of the way of the door, which is raising. She walks into the room. It is brighter now than when Rory was in it; spotlights shine on the man in the suit, a woman in a formal dress to his right, two figures behind him and a ballerina behind them.

Music begins, a soft tune: humming. It does not have a distinctly happy or sad mood. AMY walks into the room, our view shifting from her—surrounded by a blur—or the strange figures. Another man in a suit, with dark hair, has walked up to the woman in the dress, who extends her arms to meet his extended arms. After another shot of AMY, we see the first man in the suit extending his arm in a gesture of “right this way”.

There is the faint sound of applause.

We look down on the ballerina, whose hair audibly wooshes out as she spins; a crown sits on her head. The humming continues. AMY sighs contentedly.

The DOCTOR, looking at the map, suddenly looks up. He turns around, looking ... concerned, almost horrified. It is as if he hears the humming. Perhaps he heard the door clatter open when AMY went into the room.)

DOCTOR:
How many Daleks directly ahead of me right now?

OSWIN:
Ten? Twenty? Hard to say. Some of them are catatonic, but they do have firepower.

DOCTOR (looking concerned, moving deliberately back out into the hall):
How do I get past them? (He turns and sees that Amy has walked into the room.)

DOCTOR (running into the room after her):
AMY!

AMY (turning to face him, holding up her pointer finger to “shush” him):
Mm, shh. It's okay. It's just people in here. It's just people.

DOCTOR:
It's the nano-cloud, it's altering your perception. (AMY turns to look at him, looking exasperated.) Look again, look again, those aren't people...

(AMY turns back to the scene as the music suddenly rises darkly. We see what she now sees: Daleks twirling like the dancers were in AMY'S hallucination. AMY gasps and seems shaken out of her hallucination.)

DOCTOR:
Come with me. Take my hand. Run! Run! (They begin to run down the corridor, back towards the ladder.)

(Before they even reach it, AMY blurts out:)
AMY:
[No!/Look!] They're coming down.

(The Doctor reaches the ladder and looks up, horrified.)

DOCTOR (judging the situation at the top of the ladder):
Ah... ah... (finally seeing something beginning to come down the ladder) Yes they are.

(AMY lets out a startled scream.

A DALEK comes down the corridor towards them.)

DALEK:
Intruder! Intruder!

(The DOCTOR opens the side-door from earlier, which leads to the map-closet.)

DALEK:
Intruder...

(The Doctor squeezes his eyes shut, and then squints one open, his usual gesture of surprise at not having been killed—as when River didn't kill him at the lake.

In the hall, we see that the DALEK has a damaged suction-arm, and is attempting to fire its weapon but cannot get more than an impotent blue glow out of it, not a beam of destructive energy.

The DOCTOR presses his ear to the door, ultimately opening it and poking around it, and then stepping back out into the hall. AMY follows.

The Doctor sees that the DALEK'S weapon is not working.)

DOCTOR (to AMY):
It's damaged.

AMY:
Okay, uh... but what do we do?

(The DOCTOR looks around and the looks at the DALEK.)

DOCTOR:
Identify me. Access your files. Who am I? Come on, who's your daddy?

DALEK (we see things from the DALEK'S perspective: a computer screen, which reads “identified” and has a picture of the Doctor, his face having been recognised):
You are the Predator.

DOCTOR:
Access your standing orders concerning the Predator.

DALEK:
The Predator must be destroyed.

DOCTOR:
And how are you going to do that, Dalek? Without a gun, you're a tricycle with a roof. How are you going to destroy me?

DALEK (we see its screen again, reading “self destruct sequence initiated”) (it begins a pulsing 'blue'-sounding “rrib-rrib-rrib” alarm noise):
Self destruct initiated.

AMY (alarmed, as the DOCTOR takes out his screwdriver and points it at the DALEK):
What's it doing?

DOCTOR:
It's going to blow itself up. And I with it. Only weapon it's got left.
(*NOTE: sic.)

DALEK (as the DOCTOR opens it up):
Self destruct cannot be countermanded! (Its screen shows a countdown, which goes from 13 to 12...)

DOCTOR:
I'm not looking for a countermand, dear. (He lets its top clang back down, having finished what he was doing.) I'm looking for reverse.

DALEK (as it speeds backwards):
Forwards! Forwards! FORWARDS!

(The DALEKS speeds backwards into the room with the other DALEKS, whose ear-lights are glowing as they, too, mumble “intruder”. It explodes just as it crashes into another DALEKS, tipping backwards. The blinding light of the explosion floods the room and the corridor.)

[cut]

(RORY, in the room he is in, feels the place rock.)
RORY:
Woah! Oh!

(We see OSWIN watching him from her control room. She, too, jumps up and looks backwards at the door to her room, alarmed.)

RORY (looking around as we hear dust and debris settling):
Oswin? What... was that? That, [that] ... that was close.

(We see the charred remains of a Dalek which has been blown open, and then see that the other Daleks have similarly been blown open.

RORY sees this as well as he rushes back into the room.)

RORY:
Oswin?! What happened?!

RORY (softly):
Who killed all the Daleks?

(At this point, the DOCTOR walks back into the room holding an unconscious Amy in his arms.)

DOCTOR (softly, to RORY, smiling almost cockily):
Who do you think?

[cut] (For a moment,we see the planet, the forcefield around it still.)

[cut] (We see Amy lying on the faintly-glowing white circular platform, the DOCTOR and RORY crouching over her.)

RORY (to the DOCTOR):
Will sleeping help her? Will it slow down the process?

OSWIN (over the intercom):
Better hope so, because pretty soon, she's going to try and kill you.

(AMY grunts.)

DOCTOR:
Amy?

AMY:
Ow.

DOCTOR:
Still with us?

RORY:
Amy, it's me. (She looks exasperated and turns her head away.) Do you remember me? (She slaps him.) She remembers me.

DOCTOR (looking amused):
Same old Amy.

OSWIN (looking sad, pensive):
Do you know how you make someone into a Dalek? Subtract love, add anger...
(looking up) Doesn't she seem a bit too angry to you?

AMY (lifting her head up):
Well. Somebody's never been to Scotland.

DOCTOR:
What about you though, Oswin? How come you're okay? Why hasn't the nano-cloud converted you?

OSWIN:
I mentioned the genius thing, yeah? Shielded in here.

DOCTOR:
Clever of you. Now, this place. The Daleks said it was fully automated. But look at it in here. It's a wreck.

OSWIN:
Well I've had nearly a year to mess with them and... (she looks around) not a lot else to do.

DOCTOR:
A junior entertainment manager hiding out in a wrecked ship, hacking the security systems of *the* *most advanced* warrior race the universe *has ever seen*. But you know what really gets me about you, Oswin? The soufflés.

AMY (almost inaudibly):
The soufflés?

DOCTOR (looking into Oswin's camera):
Where do you get the milk for the soufflés?
(looking back to AMY and RORY) Seriously, is no one else wondering about that?

RORY:
No! Frankly, no! Twice!

OSWIN:
So... Doctor. I've been looking you up. You're all over the database. Why do the Daleks call you “the Predator”? (She is looking at her screen, at a file marked “Predator”.)

DOCTOR:
I'm not a predator. I'm just a man with a plan.

OSWIN:
You've got a plan?

RORY:
We're all ears.

AMY (still lying down):
There's a nose joke going if someone wants to pick that one off.

DOCTOR:
In no particular order, we need to neutralise all the Daleks in this Asylum, rescue Oswin from the wreckage, escape from this planet, and fix Amy and Rory's marriage.

AMY (after pausing for a moment):
Okay, I'm counting three lost causes. Anyone else?

DOCTOR:
Oswin, there's a Dalek ship in orbit...

OSWIN:
Yeah. Got it on the sensors.

DOCTOR:
The asylum has a forcefield. The Daleks upstairs are waiting for me to turn it off. Soon as I do, they'll burn this whole world and us with it.

DOCTOR (claps his hands, has a plan, jumps off the platform):
So, Oswin, my question is this:
(speaking into the camera) How fast can you drop the forcefield?

(RORY looks concerned, looks up.

Amy looks up, concerned.

Oswin looks intrigued.)

OSWIN (intrigued):
Pretty fast. But why would I?

DOCTOR:
Because this is a teleport, am I right Oswin?

OSWIN:
Yeah. Internal use only.
(*NOTE: this was one of the hardest lines for me to suss out. I thought she was saying “Yeah, a telon-u-ssembly”!)

(The DOCTOR snaps his fingers and points at the camera through which Oswin is seeing him, pleased with himself.)

DOCTOR:
I can boost the power, though once the forcefield is down, and we can use this to beam us right off this planet... (He stands and points his screwdriver upwards.)

RORY:
But you said when the forcefield is down the Daleks will *blow* us *up*.

DOCTOR:
We'll have to be quick, yes.

AMY:
Fine, we'll be quick. But where do we beam to?

DOCTOR:
The only place within range. The Dalek ship.

AMY:
Then they'd exterminate us on the spot.

RORY:
Oh, so this is the kind of escape plan where you survive about four seconds longer.

DOCTOR:
What's wrong with four seconds? You can do loads in four seconds.

DOCTOR:
Oswin, how fast can you drop the forcefield?

OSWIN:
I can do it from here. Soon as you come get me.

DOCTOR (standing, looking concerned):
No, just drop the forcefield and come to us.

OSWIN (calculating):
There's enough power in that teleport for one go. Why would you wait for me?

DOCTOR:
Why wouldn't I?

OSWIN:
No idea. Never met you. (typing) Sending you a map so you can come get me.

RORY (to the DOCTOR?):
This place is crawling with Daleks.

OSWIN (overhearing?):
Yeah. Kind of why I'm anxious to leave. Come up and see me sometime.

(The DOCTOR taps away at a screen on which he has received the map.)

RORY (leaning over the console, to the DOCTOR):
So ... *are* we going to go get her?

DOCTOR:
I don't think that we have a choice.

(OSWIN settles back into her chair. She looks ... excited for a moment, but then worried.)

DOCTOR (handing RORY a control-pad he has rigged up):
Okay, as soon as the forcefield is down the Daleks will attack. If it gets too explode-y wode-y in here, you go without me, okay?

RORY:
And leave you to die?

DOCTOR:
Oh, don't worry about me. You're the one beaming up to a Dalek ship to get exterminated.

RORY:
Fair point. (his voice breaking) Love this plan!

RORY:
Uh, what about Amy?

(The DOCTOR is under the circular platform, finishing his work.)

DOCTOR:
Keep her remembering, keep her focussed! That'll hold back the conversion!

AMY (irritated):
What do *I* do?

DOCTOR (popping up beside her, with a look of sad, friendly concern):
You heard what she said. (AMY looks irritated.) They're *subtracting* *love*. Don't let them!

(AMY looks sad.

The DOCTOR has gone off, and is carefully moving down a twisting corridor. Daleks can be heard in the distance. “Prepare to be annihilated!” He reaches a T-fork in the tunnels, and chooses to continue straight.)

[cut]

(In the teleport room, AMY is perched moodily on the platform. RORY is pacing in the background.

He turns, behind her, and speaks:)

RORY:
Okay, look at me. (she looks) I'm going to be logical. Cold and logical, okay? For both of our sakes, for both of us, I'm gonna take this off my wrist and put it on yours.

AMY:
Why? Then it'll just start converting you. That's not better.

RORY:
Yeah, but it'll buy us time because it will take longer with me.

AMY:
Sorry, what?

RORY:
It's subtracts love. That's what she said.

AMY:
What's that got to do with it? What does that even mean?

RORY:
It's just arithmetic. It'll take longer with me, because...well, we both know. We've both always known that...

RORY (putting his face in front of hers, stating it as if it is obvious):
Amy, basic fact of our relationship is that I love you more than you love me. (AMY looks surprised when he says that.) Which, today, is good news because it might just save both of our lives.

AMY (hurt):
How can you say that? (Now RORY looks hurt.)

RORY (righteously):
Two thousand years, waiting for you outside a box. Say it isn't true! And since you know it's true, give me your arm. Amy!

(AMY slaps RORY.)

AMY (about to cry):
Don't you dare say that to me. Don't you ever dare.

RORY (upset):
Amy, you kicked me out!

AMY (crying):
You want kids! You have always wanted kids! Ever since you were a kid.
And I can't have them!

RORY (calmly):
I know.

AMY (crying):
Whatever they did to me at Demon's Run, I can't ever give you children.

AMY (unable to even look at RORY):
I didn't kick you out. I gave you up.

(AMY looks at RORY.)

RORY (he shakes his head):
Amy, I don't—

AMY (crying, speaking forcefully):
So don't you dare talk to me about waiting outside a box because that is nothing, Rory, nothing! Compared to *giving you up*.

RORY:
Just give me your arm and I'll put this on—

AMY:
No! Get off me!

RORY (yells):
Just give me your arm!

AMY (yells):
Don't touch me!

(He has grasped her wrist, and noticed something. She has noticed as well. They look down at her wrist.)

RORY (calm again, perceiving):
It's the Doctor's. When you were sleeping.

AMY (smiling through her tears):
A Time Lord. Yeah, what's [to/the] betting he didn't even need it.

RORY (a bit upset):
[Then] why didn't he just tell us!

(AMY stares into the distance.

[cut] We see the DOCTOR fixing his bow-tie.

[cut] A tear rolls down AMY's cheek.

[cut] We see metal beams with pocks of rust.)

DOCTOR:
Oswin? I think I'm close.

OSWIN (looking up from another part of her room, and returning to her control console):
You ... are. Less than ... twenty feet away.
Which is the good news.

DOCTOR:
Okay.
And the bad, which I suddenly feel is coming...?

OSWIN:
You're about to pass through intensive care.

(Another slotted door clanks open and the DOCTOR walks through it.

There is the humming of high power in the background.

There are rusty DALEKS in the room, covered in cobwebs and dust, some in chains or behind bars.)

DOCTOR:
What's so special about this lot then?

OSWIN (looking at her screen, not perceiving):
Don't know. Survivors of particular wars.
Siridon, Kembel.
Aridius, Vulcan.
Exxilon.
Ringing any bells?
(*NOTE: those are all planets on which previous Doctors fought Daleks. The Third Doctor fought them on Spiridon and Exxilon, the First Doctor fought them on Kembel and on Aridius, and the Second Doctor fought them on Vulcan.)

DOCTOR:
All of them.

OSWIN:
Yeah?
How.

DOCTOR:
These are the Daleks who survived me...

(As he approaches a DALEK which is in the center of the room, a DALEK off to the side wakes up, its voice slow, dragging.)

DALEK (ear-lights on):
Dok... tor...

(The other DALEKS awaken as well. The camera jumps around from one to another frantically. They are all exclaiming:)

DALEKS:
Doc-tor!

OSWIN (in her room, perplexed):
That's weird. Those ones don't usually wake up for anything.

DOCTOR:
Yeah, well... special visitor.

DOCTOR (reaching a door):
Okay. Door. (He taps the sides of it.) But ... it won't open.
[You] can't be far away, though.

(OSWIN puts down her keyboard and crouches in front of her console. The music rises.)

OSWIN:
Hang on. Er... [I'm] not quite sure, there's a release code... let me, let me just... [anything happening out there]?
(*NOTE: I wasn't sure of those last few words.)

(The DOCTOR looks behind him. The DALEKS are advancing on him.)

DOCTOR:
No.

OSWIN:
Hang on, I'm trying the thingy.

(The DOCTOR presses on the door. He hears a creak behind him. The music becomes more battle-like / alarming.

The DALEKS approach slowly.

The DOCTOR looks concerned.

One DALEK is chained to a wall. It lets out a long “dokkk” followed by a short “tor” and moves forward, breaking its chains.

The DALEKS close in on him, calling “Doctor”.)

DOCTOR (alarmed):
Oswin! Get this door open! Oswin! Open this door!

OSWIN:
I can't!

DOCTOR:
Oswin! Please get this door open!

(She suddenly pulls away from her console and smiles.

She smiles, shaking her head, pleased with herself, as she types away... and “Predator” disappears from her screen.)

DOCTOR (scared):
Oswin! Oswin! Please get this door open! Oswin! Oh...

(The DALEKS are almost upon him, their ear-lights on...

Then they shut off. Their suction-arms are only a hand's breadth from his face.)

OSWIN (as the Daleks pull their suction-arms away and turn and move away from the DOCTOR, who is slumped next to the door, breathing heavily):
Oh, that is cool.

(OSWIN giggles.)

OSWIN:
Tell me I'm cool, Chin Boy.

DOCTOR:
What... what did you do?

OSWIN:
Hang on, I think I found the door thingy.

DOCTOR:
No, tell me what you did.

OSWIN:
The Daleks, they have a hive mind—well they don't, but they have a sort of telepathic web.

DOCTOR:
The pathweb, yes.

OSWIN:
I hacked into it. Did a master delete on all the information connected with the Doctor.

DOCTOR:
But you made them forget me.

OSWIN:
Good, huh? And here comes the door.

DOCTOR (standing up, as the door opens behind him, revealing that the room on the other side is brightly lit):
I've tried hacking into the pathweb. Even I couldn't do it.

OSWIN (confident):
Come [and] meet the girl who can.

(The door has opened and the DOCTOR is looking into the bright, all-white room we glimpsed earlier, when the Doctor was still onboard the Daleks' ship talking to Oswin. The DOCTOR has a look of disbelief or horror, as he understands...

[cut] OSWIN is in her room, packing.

[cut] The DOCTOR'S expression remains...

[cut] OSWIN looks up, sees him on the viewscreen on her console, and gestures, inviting him in.)

OSWIN:
Hey, you're right outside, come on it.

(On her viewscreen, the DOCTOR is standing in the doorway, looking into the white-walled room.)

DOCTOR (seen on her viewscreen, in the doorway, hands at his side, faced tilted down, eyes looking forward):
Oswin.
We have a problem.

OSWIN (standing up, looking alarmed):
No we don't. Don't even say that.
Joined the Alaska to see the universe, ended up stuck in a ship-wreck first time out.
(She runs forward to a counter, places her hands on it and leans forward with a wide smile and eyes, flirty.) Rescue me, Chin Boy, and show me the stars.

DOCTOR (while we are still looking at OSWIN):
Does it look real to you?

OSWIN (she glances down and looks around, then looks back to us):
Does what look real?

DOCTOR:
Where you are right now. (We see the DOCTOR looking up at the white walls of the room, which is perhaps dome-shaped.) Does it seem real?

OSWIN (we see her again, nodding with confidence even as worry spreads across her face):
It is real.

DOCTOR:
It's a dream, Oswin.
You dreamed it for yourself ...

(OSWIN looks heartbroken, worried...)

DOCTOR:
... because the truth was too terrible ...

OSWIN (softly; her voice has lost the confidence it always had; its tone is fundamentally different):
Where am I?

(The camera turns and we see a DALEK chained to the other side of the white room, across from the DOCTOR.)

DALEK-OSWIN (in a Dalek voice):
Where... am... I? Where... am... I?

DOCTOR (looking with sadness, but resolve—the unforgiving hatred he will always bear for the Daleks shows—and not answering her question, but instead continuing his earlier train of thought):
... because you are ... a ... Dalek.

OSWIN (her voice, as we see her):
I am not ([cut] in Dalek's voice, as we see the Dalek:) a Dalek! I am not a Dalek!

OSWIN (her voice, her face):
I'm human.

DOCTOR:
You were human when you crashed here. It was you who climbed out of the pod. That was your ladder.

[cut] (We see a flashback of her climbing the ladder in a white sweater with fur-trimmed hood, like Harvey and the corpses were wearing. Like Amy did during the photoshoot, OSWIN has a ring; hers is on her right hand.

She reaches the bottom. The camera jumps around, showing shots of her, confused. “Where am I?” “Where am I?” A Dalek fires at her, approaches her as she asks again “Where am I?” as a tear rolls down her cheek.

[cut] We see OSWIN in her room again, the sad look on her face.)

OSWIN (her voice):
I'm (seguing directly into the voice of the chained DALEK, which sounds sad) human.

DOCTOR (seen through the grate of her casing):
Not anymore. Because you're right. You're a genius.
And the Daleks need genius.
They didn't just make you a puppet.
They did a full conversion.

(In her room, OSWIN seems about to cry.

[cut] In a flashback, the Daleks have cornered her. She looks helpless. “Where am I?” “Where am I?” “Where am I?” We see flashes of the Daleks' lights and weapons and suction-arms.)

DOCTOR (sympathising):
Oswin, I am so sorry. (He turns and walks away, then turns back to face her, and says, the sympathy gone from his voice:) But you are a Dalek.

(His voice has an interesting quality to it, perhaps he is pointing out her failure to realise from the start:)

DOCTOR:
The milk, Oswin.
The milk and the eggs for the soufflés.
Where, where did it all come from?

OSWIN (in a flashback, tied up, her face bound with wires):
Eggs.
I am human.
I am not a Dalek,
I am human.
(her face in human but she speaks in a Dalek voice) I am not Dalek.
(she has a human voice again, and speaks forcefully) I am human.

OSWIN (in her voice, in her room) and DALEK-OSWIN (in the white room) at the same time:
Eggs.

DOCTOR:
It wasn't real. It was never real.

OSWIN (in a flashback, tied up, her face bound with wires; speaking in a Dalek voice):
I am a Dalek,
I am a Dalek.

OSWIN (in her room, looking away from the screen, sadly):
Eggs...

OSWIN-DALEK:
... turm... ee... nayt.

(The camera pans to her weapon.)

DOCTOR:
Oswin?

OSWIN-DALEK:
Ex-...

OSWIN (in her room, still looking away from the viewscreen, sad):
...ter...mi...nate...

DOCTOR:
Oswin?

OSWIN-DALEK (breaking free of her chains, moving towards the DOCTOR):
Exterminate.

DOCTOR:
Oswin? No, no, no, Oswin?!

(The DALEK continues advancing, screaming “exterminate”.)

DOCTOR:
Oswin? Listen! Oswin, you don't have to do this. Oswin! Oswin!

(The DALEK'S cry of “exterminate” trails off into a mechanical sob. It stops just as its suction-arm is pressed into the DOCTOR'S stomach. He eyes it with understandable concern.

We see OSWIN sobbing at the back of her room.

She looks up.)

OSWIN (in her voice):
Why do they hate you

OSWIN-DALEK:
...so much? They hate you so much. Why?

DOCTOR:
I fought them ... many, many times.

OSWIN-DALEK:
We have grown stronger in fear of you.

DOCTOR (looking disgusted, knowing it is true; speaking angrily):
I know.

DOCTOR (looking down, his voice softening):
[I] tried to stop.

OSWIN (her voice):
Then run.

DOCTOR (slowly understanding what she has said, with the pleasure with which he usually receives such news):
What did you say?

OSWIN (running over to her keyboard and tapping a few keys):
I've taken down the forcefield.

OSWIN-DALEK
The Daleks above have begun their attack.
Run!

DOCTOR:
Oswin, are you...

OSWIN (in her control room):
I am Oswin Oswald. I fought the Daleks and I am...

OSWIN-DALEK:
hu-man.
Remember me.

DOCTOR (grateful):
Thank you.

OSWIN-DALEK:
Run!

OSWIN (in her chair, speaking to herself, watching him):
Run, you clever boy. And remember. (She looks at us through the camera.)

The DOCTOR runs down corridors as things explode behind him.

[cut]

(In the teleport room, feeling the shaking, looking around and at each other:)

RORY (looking at the controller he holds):
How long can we wait?

AMY (after a pause):
The rest of our life.
(*NOTE: Many pages of quotations, providers of closed captioning, etc write “lives”, but to me it sounded like “life”, which also fits their romantic reconciliation—that they speak of their life together.)

RORY (looking up at her):
Agreed.

(She pulls him in to an embrace and a kiss.

The DOCTOR makes it into the room.)

DOCTOR (hopping onto the platform):
[Hoi!/Right!] Go! Let's go.

DOCTOR (as they continue to kiss amidst the explosions):
We good? Let's go!

DOCTOR (looking exasperated):
[Oh,] for God's sake! (He grabs the controller and presses it.)

[cut] (We see the planet as cheesy missiles hit it, fired from odd angles and all hitting the center of the planet. It explodes.)

[cut] (We are back on the Dalek ship.)

PM:
The Asylum is destroyed!

SMALLER DALEK:
Incoming teleport from Asylum planet. We are under attack!

PM:
Prepare to defend! Defend! Defend!

UNARMORED DALEK:
Explain, Dalek Supreme.

DOCTOR (unseen):
You know, you guys should really have seen this coming.
Thing about me and teleports, I've got a really good aim.
Pinpoint accurate, in fact.
Or, ... to put it another way... (he pops out the door of the TARDIS) suckers!

DALEK:
Identify yourself!

DALEKS:
Identify! Identify!

DOCTOR (confused that they don't recognise him):
Well, it's me. You know me! The Doctor. The Oncoming Storm. The Predator.

DARLA:
Titles are not meaningful in this context. Doctor who?

UNARMORED DALEK:
Doctor who?

OTHER DALEKS:
Doctor who? Doctor who?

DOCTOR:
Oh, Oswin. Oh, you did it to them all. You beauty.

DALEKS:
Doctor who? Doctor who?

(The DOCTOR runs back into his TARDIS.)

DOCTOR (popping his head back out the door):
Fellas, you're never gonna stop asking.

(The TARDIS dematerialises as the DALEKS shout “exterminate!”

[cut] The TARDIS appears in grass by a street with row of houses, but is already dematerialising again.

AMY and RORY are waving at it, standing by the gate to the yard of their (her?) house.

AMY looks at RORY and wordlessly invites RORY into the house and walks in herself.

RORY celebrates until we hear AMY say, from offscreen: “I can see you.”

Embarrassed, saying “okay”, RORY stops dancing, collects himself and goes into the house after her.

[cut] Meanwhile, in the TARDIS, the DOCTOR waltzes around his controls, revelling in the Daleks' question:“Doctor who? Doctor who? Doc...tor... who?!”)
